Detroit artist describes unique sound as ‘borderless’

Switching up genres is what this local band is all about

Making changes between genres, that’s what Detroit musician Ian Ruhala, creator of the group “Hala”, says his music is all about. Ruhala stopped by “Live in the D” for Music Monday and spoke with host Tati Amare about his sound which he describes as a “Borderless, ALT-Indie Project.”

”For example, today we’re going to be playing a rock song, and in a couple of weeks I have a singer/song writery, acoustic song coming out,” Ruhala said.

He said he found inspiration for the project by years of recording and writing at home, and learning by himself. Ruhala described his new single called “Wait Forever”, coming out next month, as having lots of strings and production elements.

“I recorded it in Nashville, and just very excited for it to come out,” Ruhala said.

His most recent single “RSVP,” he said, is about the fear of missing out. He performed the song live in studio.
