Pickleball fans got a chance to serve up more than just points this weekend, as ABC Warehouse brought its “Puppies and Paddles” experience to the APP Detroit Open, a USA Pickleball-sanctioned tournament at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace.
The event combines competitive pickleball with a pet adoption drive, giving attendees the chance to watch professional play, win prizes and potentially bring home a new dog.
“We’re really excited about the Puppies and Paddles event,” said Jessica Lajcaj of ABC Warehouse. “We’re excited to be here in the community.”
ABC Warehouse partnered with Michigan Humane and the Association of Pickleball Professionals for the weekend-long event, which features giveaways, a jumbo pickle pong game and an in-store tie-in with the appliances needed for new pet owners.
“We have the appliances you need for the puppies, so now let’s take the puppies home,” Lajcaj said during the segment on Live in the D.
Attendees who play the jumbo pickle pong game can scan a code for a chance to win a Maytag washer and dryer set, along with smaller prizes such as JBL speakers and bandanas for landing the giant pickleball in a bucket.
Michigan Humane will host a “court takeover” on Sunday, bringing adoptable dogs onto the grounds along with a “Bark Bar” offering treats for the pups.
