Metro Detroit paralympian says her rescue dog adoption application was turned down because of her wheelchair
Cheryl Angelelli is a paralympian. She skydives, ballroom dances and has rescued four shih-tzu mixes over the last 16 years. Her wheelchair has never come up in the dog adoption process until last week.
Family seeking answers after 9-year-old boyโs tortoise goes missing from Roseville pet store
ROSEVILLE, Mich. โ Great Lakes Reptile in Roseville was watching two of the Crowe familyโs pet tortoises, Chip and Dale. However, Chip went missing and a 9-year-old boy is wondering what happened to him. Drew has had the tortoises for two years since they were hatchlings, and Chip is the one with all of the personality. โI was really attached to the one that was missing... Itโs just been really depressed for the last few days,โ he said. We donโt really know what happened.โAdHe said itโs possible that the tortoise was stolen and offered to replace it.

Missing puppy found alive in burned Macomb County apartment complex 2 weeks after fire
MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. โ On Feb. 13, a massive fire destroyed the River North Village Apartment complex in Mount Clemens. Dino Rasera lost everything he owned in the fire. It wasnโt the material possessions he was worried about, it was his 1-year-old chihuahua puppy Marble -- who was nowhere to be found. And I never gave up after that.โSaturday, two weeks after the fire, a man was driving through the complex when he saw Marble on the top floor, peeking out through the wreckage. Despite having lost everything heโs ever owned, Rasera said he feels blessed.
Caught on Camera: Dog rescued after falling into open manhole in Dearborn Heights
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. โ A dog is resting after being rescued from an open manhole. โThe owner -- when we arrived on scene -- he was frantic, not being able to get to your dog, the owner broke down,โ said Dearborn Heights Fire Marshal, Maxwell Mitts. The Dearborn Heights Fire Department knew it was a race against the clock to get the pup out, once they made it out to the scene. Not only was the owner happy --โThe owner was ecstatic that we were able to rescue his dog,โ said Mitts. Just a giant sigh of relief,โ Marshal Mitts concluded.
Michigan family reunited with cat lost during devastating Midland floods
MIDLAND COUNTY, Mich. โ Itโs been eight months since the devastating floods in Midland County. โShe did find us for a reason, I believe,โ Ashley Flood said. โAnd so, we actually, we definitely played our part, I think.โOn a cold snowy winter day, The Flood family heard a cat outside meowing for hours. โIt seemed well fed and its coat was rather clean,โ Ashley Flood said. They took the cat to the Humane Society of Midland County and found out the cat was micochipped.

Good dog -- Dachshund saves chihuahua mix from mountain lion
EVERGREEN, Colo. โ Winston the dachshund became an unlikely hero Nov. 7 when he saved his friend from a mountain lion. Winston and Mijo, a chihuahua mix, were outside in Evergreen, Colorado when the unthinkable happened. A young mountain lion attacked Mijo. You can watch the full story in the video above. He lost his right eye in the attack and may have some neurological damage, but thanks to Winston, he survived.

NOVI, Mich. โ A couple has been reunited with a pair of English Bulldog puppies stolen from them Saturday. ORIGINAL STORY: Thieves hold family at gunpoint at Twelve Oaks Mall, steal puppiesThe two had arranged to sell the two puppies -- named Bunny and Gizmo -- in the Twelve Oaks Mall parking lot. They said two teenagers pulled out a gun and took off with the dogs. A man claiming to be an attorney contacted the couple Sunday and arranged to return the puppies. Novi police are investigating the theft.

Frank and Dezare, with Hooligan Bullies, said they were selling them to a father looking for two puppies for his teens. Both Frank and Dezare said they decided to meet the family at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi in the parking lot Friday evening around 6 p.m. They showed the puppies to the family and thatโs when things took a turn in the wrong direction. โI hear Dezare screams, as she scream, I turn around and look and I see the two teens, run away with my puppies.

Mountain rescuers heft ailing St. Bernard off English peak
Sixteen volunteers from Wasdale mountain rescue team take turns to carry 121lb (55kg) St Bernard dog, Daisy from England's highest peak, Scafell Pike, Sunday July 26, 2020. The Wasdale Mountain Rescue team rely on public contributions to their JustGiving.com/wasdalemrt page to fund their mountain safety efforts. Sixteen volunteers from the Wasdale mountain rescue team took turns carrying Daisy, a 121-pound (55 kilogram) St Bernard, from Englands highest peak, Scafell Pike. The mountain rescue team spent nearly five hours rescuing Daisy, who had collapsed Friday evening while descending the mountain with her owners. The Wasdale Mountain Rescue team relies on donations to fund their mountain safety efforts.
$3,000 reward offered for 12-year-old girls stolen puppy in Flat Rock
FLAT ROCK, Mich. Surveillance cameras captured a thief break into a Flat Rock business and steal a Bullmastiff puppy belonging to a 12-year-old girl. For the past three months, Leah Toth has been helping a breeder in Flat Rock with a new litter of puppies. She decided to keep Gus and Cali at her Tire Shop on Telegraph Road in Flat Rock, where she has several pet Bullmastiffs. Shes a part of our family, Toth said. We want her back.The Toth family got back Friday and were supposed to pick up Gus and Cali Saturday.

GRAYLING, Mich. โ Not many people have come face-to-face with a bear enough to understand how scary of a situation it can be. Heather Willobee said it wasnโt the first time she crossed paths with a bear, but April 18 was different. "But I also knew she wasnโt coming alone and that something big was right behind her.โA 300 pound black bear had tussled with Lucy and was chasing her home. Willobee said she was able to get Lucy inside and realized she needed to go to the vet immediately, but the bear was still outside. Once Lucy was in the backseat, Willobee turned around and saw the bear was back.
Michigan governor now ordering veterinarians to minimize use of PPEs
Gretchen Whitmer is directing veterinary services that use personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize their use as much as possible to ensure availability of PPE for health care workers. The order prohibits all non-essential veterinary procedures starting on April 2, 2020, and encourages veterinarians and veterinary technicians to practice telemedicine as much as possible to slow the spread of COVID-19. And now it directs vets that use PPEs to minimize their use as much as possible to ensure availability of PPE for health care workers. โWe are working every day to make sure our health care workers have the supplies they need to fight COVID-19,โ said Whitmer. โWe must all continue to work together to secure more personal protective equipment so we can slow the spread of the virus.
