91-year-old CPL carrier shoots robbery suspect during confrontation in Eastpointe

A 91-year-old CPL carrier shot a robbery suspect Monday morning outside a pharmacy in Eastpointe, according to police.

The shooting happened outside the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Gratiot Avenue, near 9 Mile Road, at about 10:15 a.m.

Police said the 91-year-old man was walking from his vehicle to Rite Aid when a man who was acting in an erratic manner approached him and continued to follow him.

Fearing for his safety, the man told the suspect that he had a concealed pistol license, and the suspect pointed an unknown object at the man, according to police.

The victim fired at the suspect and struck him in the neck and the suspect fled across Gratiot Avenue and dropped in front of Petco, police said. He was taken to a hospital and into police custody.
