DETROIT – A motorcyclist is in the hospital after being struck by a driver who ran a red light on Detroit’s west side, police said.

A 39-year-old man was heading south on Hubbell Avenue at Grand River Avenue around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.

The driver of a Chevrolet Traverse -- a 28-year-old man -- failed to stop at a red light and struck the motorcycle, officials said.

The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, medical officials said.

Police said they took the driver of the Traverse into custody.

Detroit police are investigating the crash.
