State police: Focus hits Mustang on westbound I-94 near Ecorse Road

Mustang driver flown to Ann Arbor hospital; Focus driver arrested

DETROIT – Michigan State Police said troopers were called about 1:35 a.m. Monday to a crash on westbound I-94 near Ecorse Road.

Police say a Ford Focus struck a Ford Mustang that had broken down and was waiting to be towed on the side of the interstate.

The Focus drove onto the shoulder and struck the Mustang, pushing it into the tow truck that was in front of it. The driver of the Mustang was trapped inside the car and had to be cut out by firefighters from the Taylor Fire Department. He was rushed to the University of Michigan Hospital by a helicopter survival flight.

The driver of the Focus was arrested for suspected operating while under the influence.

There were no other injuries in the crash, state police said.

The westbound side freeway was closed for hours at Telegraph Road but is back open to traffic.
