TAYLOR, MI – A homeless man found dead near an United Auto Workers building likely died due to exposure to winter weather. Taylor Police Chief John Blair told The Times-Herald that the body of the 47-year-old man from Taylor was found near a shack on the UAW property on Telegraph Road. “There were no obvious signs of trauma,” Blair told the newspaper. Pontiac man shoots ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, calls her phone during police interview
PONTIAC, Mich. – A Pontiac man shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend while the two were sitting inside a car, and then called his ex-girlfriend’s cellphone while she was being interviewed by police, according to deputies. A 21-year-old Pontiac woman told police that her ex-boyfriend, a 23-year-old Pontiac resident, had shot her current boyfriend, a 21-year-old Pontiac resident. While deputies were interviewing the 21-year-old woman, her ex-boyfriend called her cellphone and admitted to the shooting while on speakerphone, according to police. Officers spoke with the ex-boyfriend on a family member’s cellphone and persuaded him to come outside without the pistol, according to police. The 21-year-old shooting victim is stable at McLaren Oakland Hospital.

Man dies after girlfriend calls police to say she stabbed him at Southfield apartment
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 27-year-old Southfield man died overnight after his girlfriend called police to report she had stabbed him during a dispute at an apartment complex, officials said. The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday (March 15) at the Lancaster Hills apartment complex on Lancaster Drive near Telegraph and 12 Mile roads, according to authorities. Police said they received a call from a 22-year-old Southfield woman who said she was involved in a domestic altercation and had stabbed her boyfriend. Authorities arrived, rendered aid and took the man to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival, officials said. The case is being investigated as a domestic homicide, per Southfield officials.

Hodge said that’s when a part of the car wash machine allegedly slammed into her car. “We don’t often get calls to rescue people from car wash,” Watson said. Man, woman hospitalized after attempted murder in Bedford Township, police seek suspects
BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted homicide that occurred Tuesday night in Bedford Township. According to authorities, the incident happened at about 10 p.m. at the Bedford Inn Motel on Telegraph Road. Police said the investigation revealed both victims were assaulted at the Bedford Inn Motel the night prior. A search warrant was authored and served by detectives on a motel room at the Bedford Inn Motel, where evidence of an aggravated assault took place. Pontiac man wearing work uniform in indecent exposure incident quickly identified, police say
PONTIAC, Mich. – A 20-year-old man from Pontiac was taken into custody Saturday afternoon on suspicion of indecent exposure. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, it happened just before 12:30 p.m. at a Sally Beauty Supply store in the 320 block of Telegraph Road, just north of Cherry Hill Street. Oakland County deputies located the suspect at the Big Lots store where they said he admitted to exposing himself and was taken into custody. A computer check revealed that the suspect was a missing and endangered person out of Southfield. The man is currently housed at the Oakland County Jail pending charges.
Driver crashes through shopping plaza, into Andiamo restaurant in Bloomfield Township
BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A woman driving on Telegraph Road crashed through a shopping plaza and into an Andiamo restaurant in Bloomfield Township, police said. An 87-year-old woman driving a Toyota Camry was in the median crossing from northbound Telegraph Road to the entrance of the Plaza shopping center, according to authorities. The Camry collided with a Ford Escape heading south on Telegraph Road, causing the Camry to crash through the shopping plaza, police said. Officials said the restaurant was closed at the time of the crash. Bloomfield Township officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
City of Monroe approves site contracts
The City of Monroe recently approved two new contracts with engineering firm Mannik & Smith Group related to the ongoing redevelopment of the former La-Z-Boy World Headquarters along N. Telegraph Rd. According to documents from the city, Mannik & Smith will prepare plans and specifications needed for the bidding of the traffic signal upgrade at the intersection of Holiday and Telegraph. While the contracts were unanimously approved, councilman John Iacoangeli expressed concern with how frequently Mannik & Smith is awarded city contracts without having to present competitive bids. “With the rest of the engineering work, we can certainly look at soliciting other proposals, if you will, for work on the rest of the site. “I think it just makes sense to finish up with Mannik & Smith on these two items.”monroenews.com
Federal lawsuit filed against city of Dearborn, police department
DEARBORN, Mich. – A federal lawsuit was filed after a local father said he asked for directions from a police officer and was assaulted. Court documents claim Luther Gonzalez-Hall, 22, asked Dearborn Police officer Marvin Sanders for directions and the interaction ended with the officer assaulting and choking Gonzalez-Hall. At one point during the confrontation, Sanders’ bodycam falls to the ground. “I didn’t believe that it was real.”Now Gonzalez-Hall is suing Sanders, the city of Dearborn and the Dearborn Police Department for the way he was treated. When Local 4 asked about the status of officer Sanders, the Dearborn Police Department immediately asked the Defenders to submit a Freedom of Information Act request.

Ohio woman arrested after Monroe County car crash kills 1, injures 3
The 31-year-old driver of the GMC, a man also from Toledo, Ohio, was reportedly waiting for assistance and had his hazard lights on when his vehicle was struck. Following the crash, the front seat passenger of the Honda Civic -- a 36-year-old woman from Toledo, Ohio -- was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. A third passenger of the Honda Civic -- a 41-year-old woman from Toledo, Ohio -- was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. The woman was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, officials said. The 23-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail.

Monroe council approves La-Z-Boy demolition contract
The City of Monroe has owned the former La-Z-Boy headquarters site on Telegraph Road since early November. The former La-Z-Boy World Headquarters is coming down and for a steal. Monroe City Council on Tuesday unanimously agreed to award Carleton-based Homrich with a demolition contract for the 26-acre site along North Telegraph Road. Former La-Z-Boy site land transfer OKed
The Monroe City Council unanimously approved a land transfer agreement Monday that allows the city to move forward on a planned redevelopment of the former La-Z-Boy Incorporated headquarters. Per the Public Act 425 agreement, the city will obtain authority over 8.13 acres of the site off N. Telegraph Rd. They only have to pay taxes to one entity.The land transfer was approved unanimously by the Frenchtown Township Board July 23. Assuming the city approves that agreement, they will own the entire 26.024-acre site despite Frenchtown retaining authority over its two parcels.
