Woman, 2 dogs killed in Novi condominium fire

44-year-old woman pronounced dead at hospital

NOVI, Mich. – A 44-year-old woman and two dogs were killed overnight in a fire at a Novi condominium, officials said.

Novi police said they were called at 2:06 a.m. Monday (April 5) to the Country Place Condominiums in the 21000 block of East Glen Haven Circle off of Eight Mile Road.

A neighbor had heard a smoke detector and saw flames and smoke coming from the front window of a condo, police said.

When firefighters and police officers arrived, they entered the building by breaking the front window and then opened the front door, authorities said.

While one team of firefighters put out the fire, another went to the second floor and found the 44-year-old woman. She was brought down to the fire floor for CPR, according to officials.

An ambulance took her to Ascension Hospital in Novi, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Officials said two small dogs were also killed in the fire.

Novi police and Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies are still investigating the cause of the fire. They believe it might have been accidental, and so far, there’s no reason to suspect foul play.
