Will the vaccination milestones tied to reopening Michigan motivate people to get their shot?

State officials outlined four vaccination goals that will trigger the loosening of certain COVID-19 restrictions Thursday.

Mandates haven’t worked as incentives, so making it clear that the more people that are vaccinated, the more likely we are to get back to normal is the right move.

Dr. Jason Wasserman, a medical ethics expert at Oakland University’s William Beaumont School of Medicine, said reopening Michigan being tied to the vaccination rates is a “dose of needed reality.”

Some people believe the connection could cause rifts in their communities.
