If this year’s gardening has resulted in a collection of plastic flower pots and trays sitting in your yard or garage, good news: you can recycle them at Meijer stores.

All Meijer Garden Centers are accepting plastic flower pots and plastic trays, which will be shipped to a plastic processing facility to be recycled. Plastic pots and trays do not have to be purchased at Meijer in order for them to be recycled at a Meijer Garden Center.

Meijer officials say the centers have been collecting extra pots and trays since 2014, and have since contributed to the recycling of 1,825 tons of plastic through the program.

“Gardening is an activity that supports a natural environment where plants can flourish, but unfortunately, the majority are sold in plastic gardening containers,” said Jeff Lynch, a Meijer garden center merchant. “By working with our suppliers and customers to recycle those containers, it’s our way of being more environmentally friendly and moving the industry forward.”
