Man who was last seen at Pontiac hospital found dead behind church blocks away

PONTIAC, Mich. – Officials say that a man who went missing after he walked away from a Pontiac hospital last week was found dead behind a nearby church.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, 48-year-old Christopher James Smith was found behind the First Presbyterian Church in Pontiac off of Wayne Street.

Officials say there are no immediate signs of foul play or trauma to Smith’s body. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.

The last confirmed sighting of the 48-year-old was on March 29 at 6:30 p.m. when he left McLaren Oakland Hospital.
