Key meeting between parents, school board occurring over cell tower on Wyandotte elementary school

A notice from the Wyandotte School Board alerted the district of a special meeting Wednesday

WYANDOTTE, Mich. – Local 4 has been closely following the controversy in Wyandotte involving a cell phone tower on an elementary school.

Public meetings on the issue have been tense, with some parents voicing concerns about what they believe are possible adverse health effects from the tower.

A notice from the Wyandotte School Board alerted the district of a special meeting Wednesday (April 5). On the agenda was to consider a confidential legal opinion.

Parents at Washington Elementary quickly organized and have been fighting against the T-Mobile cell tower and cell tower power equipment placed on the school and on the playground.

The result has been meetings with tempers flaring, causing police to be called.

Parents say not enough is known about radiation from the towers and its impacts on their kids. They want the tower gone and do not feel that they have been heard by Wyandotte Superintendent Dr. Catherine Cost.

What those parents are focusing on for Wednesday’s meeting has Cost stepping down, or will she be removed, or is she staying in place?

They also want to know if the cell tower will also stay in place.

Parents believe the school board can take a re-vote on the tower and then break its contract with T-Mobile.
