12-year-old boy organizes Detroit Lions run club in South Lyon

Club wants other fans to join them and hope to be running Super Bowl Sunday

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – A 12-year-old South Lyon boy is showing his pride in the Detroit Lions with a newly minted club, The Detroit Lions Running Club.

Zach Olech says he got the idea from a social media video he saw over the summer.

“I saw the idea of the (New York) Yankees fan,” said Olech. “That fan would run for every point the team scored. I thought it would be fun to do for the lions because everyone loves the Lions.”

Olech has over a dozen friends and family members running, walking, and riding with him nationwide. The pride ranges in age from ages three to 80, and they’re looking to expand.

“You just have to be a Lions fan, get in shape, get physical activity,” Olech said.

“We said let’s do it, see how it goes this year,” said Olech’s aunt Alexis Klayssan. “Maybe it’ll keep growing, and it’ll turn into something really cool in the future.”

Klayssan runs from Bowling Green, Ohio, and says everyone is having a blast.

“It’s so fun,” Klayssan said. “The creativity of the pictures everyone sends keeps getting better and better. If the Lions score 100 points every week, I would gladly go out and run 100 mins for the Lions victory for sure.”

The group wants other fans to join them and hope to be running Super Bowl Sunday.
