School board members lay out emergency response plan in Oxford

Topics included board oversight, parent involvement in threat assessments, mandatory training

OXFORD, Mich. – Oxford Community Schools and its board laid out updated safety plans in response to the third-party investigation that found the shooting could’ve been prevented.

At Tuesday’s (Dec. 12) school board meeting, Superintendent Vickie Markavitch read through a long list of current policies and slight modifications to be made moving forward.

Topics included board oversight, parent involvement in threat assessments, mandatory training, and more.

After attending listening sessions in November, some parents were frustrated at unaddressed questions and concerns.

“This response was another missed opportunity, another trigger, another slap in the face,” said one parent.

Parents of some of the students killed in the shooting were at Tuesday’s meeting, including Tate Myre’s father, who called out, “Our kids took the bullet for these changes.”
