Lions drone show lights up Detroit skyline

It was originally planned for Friday but was moved to Saturday due to fog.

DETROIT – A twinkling Lion took over Detroit’s sky Saturday as part of a drone show put on for fans to enjoy.

The Lions hired a Michigan-based company to put on the show.

Pilot Matt Quinn with Starlight Aerial Productions said it took four days and 400 drones to make it happen.

“We’re the only ones that can tell a story in the sky,” Quinn said.

The 13-minute show featured several animations including a lion eating the San Francisco 49ers logo and favorite slogans like “Decker Reported.”

People stood on top of parking garages, on the streets and peered out windows to watch the show.

Fans cheered, chanted, and honked in response to the show that ended with a big applause.

Quinn explained that the drones are all pre-programmed to create the formations.

“We apply a bunch of programming to (the drones) and basically when it’s time we hit a couple of buttons and we let it go. That simple,” Quinn said.
