Jury finds Redford Township man guilty of killing neighbor, shooting witness

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 43-year-old man from Redford Township has been convicted of six felonies in connection with a May 2021 shooting.

According to the Attorney General’s office, Maurice Crisp shot and killed his neighbor and then shot a witness in the back of the head, who survived. Police said Crisp was on parole for homicide at the time of the shooting. He had pled guilty to second-degree murder in 2003 and was sentenced to 15-30 years behind bars. He was released on parole in July 2020.

Crisp was arrested the day after the 2021 shooting and was charged with first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, firearm possession by a felon, habitual offender -- fourth offense and three felony firearm violations.

A jury found Crisp guilty of all six felonies Thursday, Feb. 1. He faces the possibility of a life-sentence without the possibility of parole. Crisp will be sentenced Feb. 16.

Crisp’s then-girlfriend and co-defendant Amy Morgan pled guilty in January to accessory after the fact to a felony for helping Crisp hide after the shooting. She will be sentenced March 6.
