A Michigan man won $1 million on a scratch-off lottery ticket, and when he showed it to his sister, she thought it was “one of those prank tickets.”

The lucky player decided to buy a lottery ticket when he stopped at Tom and Dick’s Inc. at 921 Emmet Street in Petoskey to pick up an energy drink.
“I have been playing this game since it came out because I have had pretty good luck with it,” the Emmet County man told Michigan Lottery officials. “I stopped to get an energy drink and saw they had the Diamond Wild Time game, so I purchased one ticket.”
After he scratched the ticket and saw that he’d won a $1 million prize, he couldn’t believe it and brought the ticket to his sister’s house.
“When I scratched the ticket and saw I won $1 million, I had to pinch myself because I thought I was dreaming! I drove straight to my sister’s house to show her, and she thought it was one of those prank lottery tickets,” the player said. “She scanned it on her Michigan Lottery app, and that’s when we knew I really did just win $1 million. Winning such a big prize is shocking, overwhelming, and everything in between.”
The player decided to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum of about $634,000. He plans to buy a car and invest his winnings.
Tickets for the Diamond Wild Time game are $20. Since the game launched in July 2023, people have won more than $77 million.
Michigan Lottery officials say there are still more than $30 million in prizes up for grabs, including 15 $10,000 prizes and 288 $1,000 prizes.
