OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Law enforcement agencies across Oakland County are deploying new high-tech cameras to enhance security at the 30th annual Woodward Dream Cruise—expected to draw more than one million visitors this weekend.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard announced the installation of 18 Clearview Towers along the historic 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue from Ferndale to Pontiac.
Each tower features three different camera views and utilizes AI technology that can track specific vehicles and individuals.
“It’s the largest single automotive gathering in the world. So, it’s a bit of a challenge to police,” said Bouchard.
Comprehensive Security Measures
The security operation includes multiple layers of protection beyond the new AI-powered cameras.
Law enforcement will deploy drones, helicopters, K-9 units, motorcycles, horses, bikes, and pedestrian patrols throughout the event.
A newly established joint operations center in Royal Oak will serve as the command hub, monitoring real-time video feeds and coordinating responses across nine different communities.
“All the cameras allow us to see things in real time and have situational awareness. If we see something developing, then it can be communicated very quickly, and we can get resources there,” Bouchard said.
