DETROIT – A public meeting is underway to discuss Detroit’s new WNBA team and its future headquarters.
The plans call for a 75,000-square-foot WNBA practice facility on the former Uniroyal site along the Detroit River, as well as a 100,000-square-foot youth sports academy and multiple athletic fields.
The $50 million project would create dozens of permanent jobs and nearly 300 construction jobs.
Site prep is slated to begin in 2026, with construction getting underway in 2027, ahead of the team’s 2029 debut.
