Severe storms bring risk of tornadoes, hail, flooding

4Warn Weather – The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac issued a severe thunderstorm warning Monday evening for parts of northeastern Wayne and southern Macomb counties, warning of damaging winds and hail as a storm moved through the region.

The warning remains in effect until 9 p.m.

At about 7:47 p.m., forecasters said a severe thunderstorm was located over Warren and moving northeast at 40 mph.

The storm was capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter, according to the Weather Service.

Radar indicated the storm, with officials warning of possible damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees.

Communities in the storm’s path included Warren, St. Clair Shores, Mount Clemens, Grosse Pointe, Sterling Heights, and Clinton Township. New Baltimore was also expected to be impacted later in the evening.

Other areas affected included portions of northeast Detroit, Harper Woods, Roseville, Hamtramck, and multiple Grosse Pointe communities.

The Weather Service urged residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building for safety.

Officials also advised people attending events at Comerica Park to seek immediate shelter as the storm moved through the area.
