Mother shot during carjacking outside Oakland County strip mall, man arrested after police chase

A woman is seriously hurt after being shot during a random carjacking outside a shopping plaza in Orion Township.

The shooting happened at around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, outside Baldwin Commons Plaza near Baldwin and Brown roads.

According to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, investigators believe a 25-year-old Ann Arbor man had been sitting outside watching for a victim before targeting the woman, who was walking through the parking lot with her young son.

A 71-year-old fought a purse thief in an Oakland County Meijer. Here’s how it ended

An Oakland County woman has been sentenced to probation after reportedly stealing purses from two shoppers at different stores in Rochester Hills.

Lynsie Marion Leinenger, of Auburn Hills, was charged in December with unarmed robbery and larceny from a person. She later pleaded no contest to both charges.

Inmates die within days at Huron Valley women’s prison as law firm launches investigation

Attorneys for the family of a 28-year-old woman who died inside Michigan’s only women’s prison say they are receiving alarming tips from other inmates about the days and hours leading up to her death, which came just two weeks before she was scheduled to be released on parole.

Timothy Holland, an attorney representing Khaira Howard’s family, said his firm, Fall Law, has been told Howard may have been sick for some time and that inmates reported hearing her call out for help for an extended period before her death.

Comerica Park crowd joins latest trend as Tigers lose to Guardians again

Tuesday night at Comerica Park, after a thunderstorm rolled through downtown Detroit for a second consecutive afternoon, a large group of mainly male Tigers fans decided to get some relief from the humid air by taking their shirts off and waving them above their heads.

You read that right. In the bottom of the eighth inning with the Tigers trailing by a run to the Cleveland Guardians, at least a hundred (mostly) young people gathered in the upper deck sections overlooking right field, spinning their shirts above their head in a helicopter-like fashion.
