SOUTHGATE, Mich. – A person was shot by police in the parking lot at a Meijer store in Southgate, prompting a large law enforcement response and an investigation by Michigan State Police.
The shooting occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, at the Meijer on Fort Street.
Southgate police, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State Police responded to the incident.
Investigators cordoned off part of the store’s parking lot as officers remained on the scene.
Michigan State Police are leading the investigation into the shooting.
Authorities have not released the identity or condition of the person who was shot, nor have they said what led to the encounter with police.
The incident occurred during the annual Downriver Cruise, which brought heavy traffic and large crowds to the area.
