Matthew Brockway Kliewer, 42, of Pontiac, pleaded no contest in May to six counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material. He was sentenced yesterday to 5.5-10 years in prison, with 96 days credit for time already served.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Kliewer’s home in the 500 block of Madison Avenue on April 13 after he called to tell police that his mother’s breathing was irregular and she was drifting in and out of consciousness. When deputies arrived, they could see multiple printed child porn images in plaint sight.

“(Deputies) were able to see in plain view very disturbing child sexually abusive material,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said following the arrest. “The terrible toll this takes on children must be laid at the door of the perpetrators.”

After obtaining a search warrant, deputies say they found thousands of pictures involving children stored on electronic devices.

Kliewer’s mother was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died. Bouchard said at the time the circumstances surrounding her death were under investigation, but has not provided any updates in the case.

As part of his sentence, Kliewer is required to register with Michigan’s Sex Offender Registry and abstain from owning any device that connects to the internet or possess any VHS or similar analog devices.
