Red Wings’ Kris Draper drafts his son, Kienan Draper, in 7th round
The Detroit Red Wings drafted a familiar name, and face, in the 7th round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Right wing Kienan Draper, the son of Red Wings director of amateur scouting Kris Draper, will hope to follow in his father’s quick strides in Detroit. This past season he was playing in his second campaign with St. Andrew’s College in Canada -- he had 51 points in 56 games played. His father Kris is now Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman’s righthand man in the draft. He played an impressive 1,157 career NHL games (161G, 203A) and another 222 playoff games (24G, 22A).

The 2020 NHL Draft got started Tuesday night with the first round. The Detroit Red Wings selected Swedish forward Lucas Raymond at 4th overall, then Swedish defenseman William Wallinder at 32nd overall. The Detroit Red Wings have selected Swedish defenseman William Wallinder at 32nd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. Here’s how Wallinder is described by Elite Prospects:“Wallinder towers over the competition, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 194 pounds -- there’s plenty of room for him to fill out that frame. He might be the most technically skilled skater among all defenceman in this draft. He’s a great puck-carrier, eager to lead his team up the ice, and with a great deal of initiative in creative offensive chances.”Wallinder became GM Steve Yzerman’s second pick out of Sweden in this draft. NHL set for virtual draft; Lafreniere in line as top pick
“The Rangers are a really big organization, a really good team,” said Lafreniere, who turns 19 on Sunday. “We’ve gone through multiple scenarios, we’ve had multiple mock drafts,” Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. “It’s certainly been a challenge,” Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said. “Everybody’s had to adjust.”Flames general manager Brad Treliving said it will be a change conducting the draft remotely. “We’ve talked with other GMs from other sports that have had to go through this,” San Jose general manager Doug Wilson said.
