ANN ARBOR โ The Michigan Statewide CSA Network will be hosting an upcoming virtual CSA fair featuring Michigan farms on Feb. 26. A Community Supported Agriculture share is a subscription program to a local farm in which you pay a farmer upfront for a regular delivery or pickup of their harvest. The CSA fair will consist of two drop-in Zoom sessions: one at โlunch hourโ from noon to 1 p.m. and a โhappy hourโ session from 5-6 p.m. Regional breakout rooms will be available so you can learn more about which farms offer shares in your area. Washtenaw County Farm Bureau to host agricultural trick or treat in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ Trick-or-treating looks a bit different this year. Between 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, families with children 12-years-old and younger will be able to experience free drive-thru agricultural trick-or-treating at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds. By visiting 15 stations, participants will be able to enjoy different Michigan foods and products. Hosted by the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau, the free event will be in the pavilion of Building B. The Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds are at 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd.
Digging into the mysterious packets of seeds deliveries
DETROIT Mysterious seeds from China have been arriving in mailboxes around the country. According to Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural development, the seeds have shown up in 30 States so far, including Michigan. Local 4s Paula Tutmans brother, Fred Tutman, has received numerous deliveries of the mysterious seeds. Those little baggies of seeds could be a Pandoras box of problems and could create creating strongholds of invasive plant species and invasive insect species. To date, spotted lanternfly has not been detected in Michigan, but it has been detected spreading across the nation, including in Delaware, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland and West Virginia.
