BLACK ICE

Throughout the state today, people were digging out, clearing driveways, and working to get things back to normal. We’re also seeing the kindness of neighbors shining through by helping seniors who can’t get out and shovel the snow themselves.

The city of Warren was hit pretty hard by Wednesday’s (Feb 2.) winter storm. Though multiple inches fell, everyone has dealt with the weather in their own way.

Wayne County had an entire staff of plowers on the roads all day, with work continuing throughout the night as snow continued to fall.

A winter storm warning is in effect through Thursday (Feb. 3), and snow is continuously falling and building up across Metro Detroit.

With all of the snow and ice that has been seen Wednesday (Feb. 2) also come often trips to the emergency room for preventable injuries.

"Black Ice" documentary follows journey of Black ice climbers Nothing stands in the way for a group of Black rock climbers from one of Memphis, Tennessee's poorest neighborhoods. Their first ever attempt at scaling ice was filmed for the documentary "Black Ice." In a sport where diversity is a challenge, the "Black Ice" story includes race and opportunity questions while highlighting some emotional and personal journeys. Dana Jacobson has the details.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Tragedy struck an Adrian family when a collision killed a mother and father. “It’s so hard,” said Jeffrey Hale. His parents, 60-year-old David Hale and 57-year-old Deborah Hale, and the family dog all were killed in a collision Thursday night. “My parents were actually in Taylor, doing a little bit of Christmas shopping. On their way home, they live out in Adrian, and they were on US-223, only 5 minutes away from their home,” Jeffrey Hale said.

Stratolaunch's Talon-A, shown here in an artist's concept, is one of several new hypersonic vehicles to be launched from the company's massive carrier plane, the world's largest aircraft. Stratolaunch's website now reveals that the company has reinvented itself as a builder, tester and operator of hypersonic vehicles those that can travel at least five times the speed of sound , or Mach 5. The huge plane is key to this new mission, hauling vehicles aloft to test various payloads in the extreme environments imposed by hypersonic flight. In August 2018, before Allen's death, Stratolaunch announced plans to use four different satellite-launching vehicles with the huge aircraft, including an orbital space plane. The Stratolaunch Carrier has just one flight under its belt, a 2.5-hour test flight that took place in April 2019.
