mlive.comPlayer of the Year top 10: Cephus Harris III exemplifies a workhorse running back
The Clinton Township Chippewa Valley football team is no stranger to success. Entering the playoffs for a 10th-straight season and winners of the 2018 Division 1 state championship, Chippewa Valley has seen its fair share of talent come through its program. Despite numerous All-State and NCAA-caliber players that have put on a Big Reds uniform, the Chippewa Valley program has never had a running back quite like Cephus Harris III. After all, he has done things this season that no running back has ever done in school history.

mlive.comWhich high school football game is your must-see in Michigan for Week 5?
The 2021 high school football season has crossed the median, and that means that games are becoming more vital than ever. While most MAC Red teams have been impressive offensively -- like Chippewa Valley -- Romeo has given up just 31 points in four games. A win for the Bucs would put them in a great position to contend for the league title. The winner of this matchup will be the favorite to take home the league title. Dow (3-1) is in must-win mode in its Saginaw Valley League North title quest.
mlive.comRecord-setting Chippewa Valley RB Cephus Harris is ‘Darren Sproles 2.0′
Considering what Chippewa Valley senior running back Cephus Harris has done through three games, it is difficult to argue against Merchant’s claim. Just last week, Harris set the new Chippewa Valley single-game record with 300 rushing yards in a 28-21 win over Utica Eisenhower. “He’s just an all-around great football player,” Merchant said. I was more focused on winning the game.”Harris describes himself as an explosive, high-IQ football player who is very aware of his surrounding at all times. “I treat every game like it’s Dakota or it’s my last game, or a championship game or playoff game,” Harris said.
mlive.comMetro Detroit football predictions for Week 4: Purcell looks for a groove
After going 14-3 with picks in Week 2, things were a bit more modest in Week 3 as I went 9-5. Sure, I could have been way worse, but I want to get into a groove with double-digit correct picks on a weekly basis. This is a fierce rivalry and Chippewa Valley (3-0) is looking to avenge its 29-20 loss to Dakota last year. PURCELL’S PICK: Chippwea Valley 21, Dakota 14Waterford Mott at White Lake LakelandFriday, 7 p.m. Before Lakeland’s forfeit victory over Walled Lake Western last week, the Eagles (3-0) had scored 97 points in its first two games.

mlive.comUndefeated week for Blue Devils
Victories over Chippewa Valley, Utica Stevenson and Utica Ford helped the Blue Devils improve to 5-1 on the season. The Blue Devils edged out a close 61-59 win over Chippewa Valley last Tuesday, overcoming a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The third straight win for the Blue Devils came Monday night 69-64 over Utica Ford. One thing that has stood out to Coach Benard during his team’s win streak is increased ball movement. His team recorded a season-high 15 assists in the game against Utica Stevenson, a performance he hopes to keep building on.
grossepointenews.comParents push for recall of 4 Chippewa Valley school board members
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Parents are pushing for a recall of four Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education members over decisions related to in-person learning. It targets Board President Frank Bednard, Vice President Denise Aquino and trustees Beth Pyden and George Sobah. Parents who support the recall said the issue is the lack of in-person options for students -- a frustration that goes back to last August when Chippewa Valley Schools went completely virtual. Since the recall language has been approved and neighboring districts have moved to offer greater in-person choices, a letter went home to parents advising them that Chippewa Valley will discuss implementing more in-person options next week. “Dakota High School is the biggest high school in the state right now and Chippewa Valley is right behind it, so we have special challenges we need to overcome when we have that many children,” he said.

The high school football regular season finale between Clinton Township Chippewa Valley and Detroit Martin Luther King will not be played this week after one player on Chippewa Valley tested positive for coronavirus. Chippewa Valley athletic director Dr. Adam Schihl confirmed the information with MLive, mentioning they found out about the player testing positive on Monday night. “We cannot be certain of who the young man was around the whole way through, so we had to quarantine everybody,” Schihl said. As it currently stands, Schihl mentioned Chippewa Valley’s playoff opening game will not be affected as the team is expected to end quarantine on Saturday, Oct. 24. Although Chippewa Valley is just 2-3 so far this season, it has been one of the best teams in the state in recent years.

grossepointenews.comMONDAY HUDDLE: Surprising upsets highlight first round of prep football playoffs
Prep football playoff brackets already shaken upWho could have seen all this coming in the first round of the state high school football playoffs? This year’s first round will likely always be remembered for the number of stunning upsets that took place this past weekend. Oak Park, one of the favorites in Division 2 that was littered with future college players, lost to Farmington, 12-6. The only division still with a chance of a repeat champion is Division 8, where Reading is still playing. Qualifying for a bowl and playing for a title in November is terrific turnaround for a CMU program that won one game last year.
Jamie Edmonds: Football is back!
I went to Chippewa Valley to do a preview story with Head Coach Scott Merchant and the Big Reds a week earlier. I went out to Warren and talked with Head Coach Mike Giannone and the Pilots. De La Salle didnt help themselves when they fumbled on their first possession. De La Salle lost 41-7. He happens to be the Head Coach at West Bloomfield, the top team in the state.

DETROIT – The high school football season officially ended on Saturday with the final four state championships being decided at Ford Field. Moore ran for 132 yards and four touchdowns, while Madison senior quarterback Austin Brown rushed 24 times for 108 yards and four touchdowns. But Clarkston (11-3) couldn’t convert the attempt, and Chippewa Valley went on to win its first state title since it won the Division 2 title in 2001. Chippewa Valley held a 24-10 lead at halftime, but Clarkston scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to close within 31-24.
