Detroit police: 26-year-old man injured in shooting near Beaubien, Congress streets
DETROIT – A 26-year-old man was injured in a shooting allegedly in the area of Beaubien and Congress streets Sunday morning, Detroit police said. A preliminary investigation indicated that at about 12:56 a.m., the victim was walking when an unknown man driving in a dark colored pickup truck fired shots. Police said the victim transported himself to a local hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition. Police are still investigating the shooting. Updated Report: Eastpointe man shot, killed during George Floyd protests in Detroit
DETROIT A 21-year-old Eastpointe man was shot in Downtown Detroit as protests against police brutality ensued on Friday. It was previously reported early Saturday morning that a 21-year-old male victim was shot after an unknown suspect fired shots into a crowd from a Dodge Durango amid the protests. Police say all three occupants fled the vehicle but the 21-year-old victim was shot at some point. Detroit Police Chief James Craig says there is no indication that the shooting was related to the protests. Protestors March Against Police Brutality was held in Downtown Detroit on Friday following the recent death George Floyd -- a black man from Minneapolis that was killed in a police altercation on Memorial Day.
Roseville woman uses mom’s cellphone to make her appear alive for months after murdering her, police say
ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A Roseville woman is accused of murdering her mother, putting her body in a plastic container and using her cellphone for months to send text messages to family members to make it look as if she was still alive, police said. Roseville police officers said they went to a house in the 29000 block of Congress Street around 10 a.m. Tuesday for a welfare check. Family members of a 69-year-old woman told authorities they were concerned about their grandmother. When officers arrived, the woman’s daughter, Carol Rey, 50, of Roseville, answered the door and “appeared to be evasive when asked questions about her mother,” according to officials. Police said Rey concealed the body in the plastic container and moved it to the detached garage.
Roseville man killed when car slams into tree on 12 Mile Road
ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Roseville police say they believe alcohol and speeding were factors in an early morning crash Thursday that killed a 32-year-old man. Shane Caughey was going westbound on 12 Mile Road near Congress Street when he lost control of his 2007 Monte Carlo and crashed into a tree, police said. He was wearing a seatbelt, but appeared to be going more than 70 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone, police said.
