The pilot of the plane was David S. Compo, former president of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan. Compo, along with his wife Michelle and their son Dawson, died in the crash, a news release from the association states. His term as HBA president ended on Friday, Dec. 31, 2020. David Compo began doing plans for his parents’ building company, James D. Compo, Inc. at the age of 15. David Compo was named HBA Builder of the Year in 2013 and Developer of the Year in 2015, according to the association.
