Michigan man accused in deadly hit-and-run told police he thought he hit a deer
BIRMINGHAM, MI -- A 52-year-old man has been charged with failure to stop at the scene of a fatal accident after he allegedly hit a homeless man with his car on Aug. 8, 2020. According to Fox 2 Detroit, Steven Fowlow was traveling along Woodward Avenue around 2 a.m. when he allegedly hit Wesley Stamps, who was crossing the street, but not at a designated crosswalk. In August, police said the suspect stopped his car for about 20 seconds before driving off, leaving Stamps to die in the road. Police were able to determine the make and model of the car based on debris at the scene and surveillance video obtained during the investigation. When police eventually caught up with Fowlow following a 10-month investigation, he allegedly told police he thought he had hit a deer that night.
