Detroit broadcast legend Frank Beckmann retires after nearly 50 years
DETROIT – Metro Detroit bid a fond farewell to one of its longtime radio friends Friday as Frank Beckmann retired after 48 years behind the microphone. Just shy of five decades, the one constant voice from the golden tower of the Fisher Building and WJR was that of Beckmann. He started out doing sports before he branched into talk radio. “I don’t even realize how much I’m going to miss it yet. Detroit’s newest bakery offers gourmet takeout meals
Promenade Artisan Foods has just opened their second location in Detroit inside the Fisher Building. Owners Chelsie and Jono Brymer joined Tati Amare from their Detroit location for Take Out Tuesday and talked about what their new location offers. Like the Trenton location, the new Promenade Artisan Foods in Detroit will offer, French Press coffee drinks, artisanal breads, crepes, sandwiches and gourmet grab and go meals. The Detroit location will feature the exact menu as the Trenton location, which changes every season. AdAlthough their menus will be the same, the Detroit location will differ because of its size.

Promenade Artisan Foods is now serving pastries in Detroit's Fisher Building

The Detroit spot opened on Tuesday, just in time for Paczki Day — with Promenade offering "craczki," or their take on the Polish favorite using croissant dough.Aside from pastries, the spot serves lunches and grab-and-go dinners.The restaurant takes the space of the former City Bakery, which closed during the pandemic.A number of restaurants have opened or are opening soon in the area. East African restuarant Baobab Fare opened last week, joining nearby YumVillage Afro-Caribbean Market Pantry. Detroit woman’s love of handwriting turns into successful business
DETROIT – Most would consider handwriting a lost art, but Andrea Williams was interested in calligraphy and writing since she was a little girl. She has a business is in the Fisher Building, which she says is a work of art in of itself, and business has never been busier. “People are more sending more cards,” Williams said. She went from making cards for her friends as a hobby to founding Paisley Paper Co. in 2016. Strategic Staffing Solutions moves offices from Penobscot to Fisher Building
The Fisher Building has a new largest tenant. Strategic Staffing Solutions (S3), an IT and business services company based in Detroit, will move its headquarters into three floors occupying 57,400 square feet at the iconic New Center building. We are delighted to be moving into the Fisher Building. The Fisher building is located in a growing neighborhood, and its more convenient for many of our employees and consultants.The news is a blow to the Penobscot Building. Meanwhile The Platform, owners of the Fisher Building, closed on a $36 million loan refinancing to continue much-needed maintenance and preservation efforts.detroit.curbed.com
Restoration work begins on Fisher Buildings exterior and entrances
Owners of the Fisher Building announced that it began work this week to prep Detroits Largest Art Object for restoration of its exterior and entrances. It will also soon begin long-deferred work to repair entrances on both Grand Boulevard and Third Avenue. In July 2019, the owners of the Fisher Building closed on a major loan refinance to continue much-needed maintenance and preservation efforts on the historic Art Deco building in New Center. Soon after, they announced up to $100 million in upgrades to the Fisher and adjacent Albert Kahn buildings. In October 2019, Strategic Staffing Solutions announced that it would move all of its estimated 1,400 employees into the Fisher, making it the buildings largest tenant.detroit.curbed.com
