Man who killed guest at cabin acted in self-defense, DA says

A man who fatally shot a guest at his cabin in Pennsylvania nine times did so out of self-defense, a county district attorney has determined while pushing back against criticism that the investigation lacked transparency. Evidence from the case supported witness accounts that Peter Spencer, 29, of Pittsburgh, was shot early Dec. 12 at the cabin in Venango County while he was high on psychedelic mushrooms, firing an assault rifle and threatening others. No charges will be filed, District Attorney D. Shawn White said Tuesday.

DETROIT -- The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin was posthumously honored Monday as a post office in the city of Detroit has been renamed the “Aretha Franklin Post Office Building,” according to the Associated Press. But we have added to that list of her legacy: A post office with her name on it,” Lawrence said. U.S. Sen. Gary Peters was in attendance and said Franklin’s legacy was something that everyone in Washington could agree on. “Congress can come together when it comes to standing up and recognizing this amazing person.”The post office is located about five miles east from downtown Detroit and is located near an amphitheater which is also named for Franklin, according to the AP. Woman accused in racist hit-and-run charged in another crash

An Iowa woman who told police she intentionally ran over a teenager because she believed the girl was Mexican has been charged with another hit-and-run crash that hurt a 12-year-old boy. In the latest charge, Franklin was accused of leaving a roadway, travelling onto a sidewalk and hitting a 12-year-old boy in an apartment complex in Des Moines. Witnesses to the crash told police that the vehicle accelerated prior to the crash, drove onto the sidewalk and hit the boy, CBS Des Moines affiliate KCCI reported. Des Moines police Sergeant Paul Parizek told KCCI did not discuss her motive for hitting the 12-year-old with investigators. Separately, Franklin was charged Sunday with assault in violation of individual rights and with operating under the influence, second offense.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Police are searching for a missing 88-year-old man last seen at about 5 p.m. Saturday. According to authorities, Robert Brunsden left an assisted living facility in Southfield and was last seen near the intersection of Franklin and 11 Mile roads. Police said Brunsden is very hard of hearing and has dementia. He was last seen wearing a beige jacket, jeans and dark shoes. Hearing on Aretha Franklin's estate, handwritten wills set for Tuesday

DETROIT - A judge is expected to consider a request for a handwriting expert to examine wills discovered in couch cushions after Aretha Franklin's death. A hearing is scheduled Tuesday in Oakland County Probate Court, north of Detroit. A handwritten 2014 document shows Franklin apparently wanted her son, Kecalf Franklin, to serve as the representative of her estate, which might be worth millions. But lawyers for Franklin's estate have said "there is no basis" to believe Kecalf Franklin has those skills. Local 4 will be at the hearing and will update this story.

Aretha Franklin's $1.2 million Bloomfield Hills home hits market

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. - If you're in the market for a new home and want to live like a queen, one of Aretha Franklin's homes inside a gated community in Bloomfield Hills just went on the market. The first thing you'll notice about the six-bedroom, 5 1/2-bathroom home is the red piano from Franklin's Detroit home. Down the hall is Franklin's bedroom, where she spent many nights when she wasn't on the road. Franklin's bedroom is complete with his and hers closets and an attached master bathroom finished with marble floors and a queen's throne. Aretha Franklin tribute show to benefit music students and cancer research
