The Detroit Pistons announced that longtime team broadcaster, George Blaha, had a successful heart bypass procedure on Tuesday. The team announced earlier this week that Blaha would miss the rest of this season after a heart issue was discovered during a woutine checkup. Doctors anticipated that the play-by-play announcer would make a full recovery prior to his surgery and will nor monitor his recovery. The Detroit #Pistons are happy to report that George Blaha underwent a successful heart bypass procedure earlier today. Bally Sports Detroit reporter, Johnny Kane, will likely be on the call with Greg Kelser for the remainder of the season.

The Detroit Pistons announced that play-by-play announcer George Blaha will miss the rest of the 2021-22 NBA season due to a heart bypass procedure. The surgery will take place on Tuesday and Blaha is resting based on the advice of his medical team. He’s been behind the microphone for the team’s five Eastern Conference Championships, five NBA Finals appearances and all three NBA Championships (’89, ‘90 and ‘04). Kane will likely fill-in for the remainder of the season.
