Late Iowa man linked to 1980s killings in Indiana, Kentucky
The Indiana State Police say they used genealogical data and crime scene evidence to link an Iowa man who died in 2013 to the killings of three female motel clerks and sexual assault of a fourth in Indiana and Kentucky from 1987 through 1990.
University of Detroit Mercy womenโs basketball team accuses coach of abuse
DETROIT โ The University of Detroit Mercy has pulled the plug on the rest of the womenโs basketball season amid complaints that the coach is abusing her players. The university announced Thursday night that the womenโs basketball season is over, after some serious claims against the program. โEmotional abuse, physical abuse in terms of going way over the allotted hours the NCAA provides. The allegations were made by parents of the 14 players on the team, saying the problem is with first-year coach Ann Marie Gilbert. We have talked with all players and members of our womenโs basketball program about their concerns.
Report: Quicken Loans is planning to go public
DETROIT โ Americaโs largest mortgage lender, Quicken Loans, is planning an IPO, according to reports. According to CNBC, billionaire Dan Gilbertโs company has filed paperwork that let it go public by next month. Quicken Loans is working with Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse and JPMorgan to manage the deal, CNBC reports. The value is expected to be in the tens of billions of dollars worth. Gilbert founded Quicken 35 years ago and eventually moved its headquarters to Downtown Detroit where he has built a real estate empire.
Immigrants anxious as they await Supreme Court DACA decision

The Trump administration in 2017 announced the end of the program, resulting in legal challenges now in the hands of the Supreme Court. Immigration authorities have said they would deport any DACA recipients who have an existing immigration court case. She says the pandemic and now keeping up with nationwide protests over police brutality and racial injustice have disrupted her sleep, but the nights before Supreme Court decision days are particularly bad. Many black DACA recipients rely on her for the latest information, she said.
Michigan community troubled by possible cat killer
ALLEGAN, Mich. โ Residents in a West Michigan community have reported on social media that several cats have been found killed around their town -- sparking rumors of a cat killer. The Allegan community members say several cats have been found mutilated in recent weeks, according to WWMT. Melissa Gilbert, manager of a Shell gas station in Allegan, told WWMT that a man found a mutilated catโs body in a bag while searching the dumpster for cans and bottles. Residents took to the Allegan Informed Facebook page, reporting it was not the only incident of a mutilated cat in the community. Allegan police said they have had no reports of a cat related incident, but Gilbert claims police didnโt take a report.
Service Dogs Trained in Prison Finally Go Home With the Veterans Who Need Them
Inmates at a New York prison watched the service dogs theyd trained for two years be presented to the veterans and first responders who need them during an emotional graduation ceremony. Puppies Behind Bars trains prison inmates to raise service dogs for wounded war veteran veterans and first responders. It teaches responsibility, teamwork, sticking with things when stuff gets pretty crappy, Gilbert said of raising a service dog. Crystal knows the dog she trained is going to be a huge help to others, she said. In the future, Gilbert said she hopes to have police officers and firefighters with PTSD get the dogs as well or have the dogs serve as wellness dogs for police departments.
