Hazmat team called to state police post in Bay County after man shows up with suspicious package
WILLIAMS TWP, MI — A Hazmat-clad team responded to a Michigan State Police post after someone brought an unknown substance there. They identified it as a product the man had ordered by mail and forgotten about. The morning of Wednesday, Nov. 11, the man showed up at the Tri-City Post at 2402 Salzburg Road in Bay County’s Williams Township. He had with him an unknown substance wrapped in plastic, claiming he had received it in the mail, said Lt. Lizabeth Rich. The Tri-County Hazmat Team, including Midland Fire Department personnel, responded to the post as a precaution.

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Test results confirm a green substance found seeping onto I-696 in Madison Heights last week is hexavalent chromium. The substance was discovered on the eastbound side of the roadway, near the Couzens Road exit, on Dec. 20. Hexavalent chromium was found at at 0.14 milligrams per liter. The storm sewer eventually enters Lake St. Clair miles away, EGLE said. According to EGLE, the “release likely contributed contaminants to the storm sewer system before it was discovered.”The cleanup could take months, officials said.
Green substance oozing onto freeway closes lane on EB I-696 in Madison Heights
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – One eastbound lane of I-696 is closed in Madison Heights due to a substance on the freeway. The Sky 4 chopper showed the green substance oozing out of an embankment. The substance is believed to be contaminated ground water that is coming from the basement of Electro Plating Services, the Michigan Dept. The owner of the business was recently sentenced after he pleaded guilty to storing hazardous waste without a permit.
