Fraser man sentenced to 8-15 years in 2019 fatal assault in St. Clair Shores
ST. CLAIR SHORES โ Hatum Akrawi was sentenced Friday to eight to 15 years behind bars for manslaughter after a deadly assault at a St. Clair Shores bar in 2019. Akrawi sat in court and listened as the family of Shawn Kubic tearfully described the pain he caused. Despite the pleas from Kubicโs family, the judge sentenced Akrawi to eight to 15 years, two years shy of the maximum sentence. Akrawiโs attack was described as a sucker punch, but Judge Michael Servitto made it clear that it was much more. Akrawi waited until Kubic was at his most vulnerable inside Kaponeโs Bar and hit him with every ounce of strength in his body.
Canton man faces involuntary manslaughter charge in shooting death of 8-year-old son
CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A Canton Township man has been arraigned on charges in connection with the shooting death of his 8-year-old son. Nicholas Bennett, 33, was arraigned on Friday morning. The shooting happened at a home in the 41020 block of Old Michigan Avenue in Canton Township on Dec. 15 at 3:45 p.m.Police said Bennett was working on a rifle when he fatally shot his son, who was in the room with him. Canton police officers were called to the scene and the child was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Waterford Township woman released 20 months after conviction in husbandโs death
WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A Waterford Township woman who spent 20 months in prison after being convicted of manslaughter in her husbandโs death has been released. Tin Talbotโs family members lined up to wait for her release Tuesday morning, but not everyone is happy sheโs out of prison. Talbot was released at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday after spending 20 months -- the minimum sentence from her conviction -- in prison. She was granted parole and released after exactly 20 months. 17-year-old boyfriend charged with manslaughter after Roseville High School senior fatally shot
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. โ Charges have been filed against a 17-year-old from Eastpointe in connection with the fatal shooting of his 17-year-old girlfriend. Kira Seymour was shot and killed Wednesday with her 6-week-old daughter nearby. She was visiting her boyfriend, Rayquan Taylor, in Eastpointe when she was shot in the chest. 22-year-old Detroit woman charged in shooting death of teenage brother
Detroit resident, Chinasia Elliza-Yvonna Williams, has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of her 14-year-old brother, Chance Williams, also a city resident. Williams, 22, is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, manslaughter and death by a weapon aimed with intent but without malice. She allegedly had a handgun and removed the magazine from the weapon, pointed it at her brother and pulled the trigger. A neighbor was reportedly called to the scene and took the victim to the hospital where he died from a single gunshot wound.
