The Warriors took on the Byron Center Bulldogs at the USA Hockey Arena-Plymouth on Saturday, March 11. Although the Bulldogs carried the first two periods, Brother Rice scored three goals in the final period to win the game, 4-2. This is Brother Rice’s sixth state title since 2002. “It was so hard to see.”Fire crews were called around 6:30 p.m., Feb. 16, for a three-alarm fire at Karl’s Cabin Restaurant and Banquets, 6005 Gotfredson Road in Salem Township in Washtenaw County. A restaurant opened in the historic log cabin building in 1945 and it became Karl’s Cabin in 1982, according to the restaurant’s website, which also states the building is one of the oldest log cabin structures in Southeast Michigan. The owners of Karl’s Cabin did not respond to a request for comment. “Karl’s Cabin is really a fixture of the Plymouth community,” he said. Karl’s Cabin Restaurant and Banquets is currently closed.

Native Americans in Massachusetts are calling for a boycott of a popular living history museum featuring colonial reenactors portraying life in Plymouth, the famous English settlement founded by Pilgrims arriving on the Mayflower. They say the Plimoth Patuxet museum hasn't lived up to its mandate to create a "bi-cultural museum" telling equally the stories of the European and indigenous communities. The statement also cited a pair of grants the museum received to boost its Native American education programming.

Owner of Ann Arbor refillery hopes new Plymouth location will spark conversation
The Ann Arbor store, located at 255 E. Liberty St., Suite 215, offers a variety of household products, including soaps, laundry detergent, sunscreen and shampoo. She plans to open her Plymouth location, 550 Forest Ave., Suite 4, by the end of August, with a grand opening slated for September. The Plymouth location will offer many of the same items as the Ann Arbor store, but focus on carrying Plymouth brands. While the city of Plymouth does have some recycling options available, the nearest drop-off for renters or those with larger recycling needs is in Ann Arbor, Hess said. A desire for bulk options has also driven many Plymouth residents to her Ann Arbor store, Hess added.

PLYMOUTH, MI – A woman who had said she wanted to die by suicide was found dead on a Michigan freeway ramp early Sunday, police said. Around 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to southbound M-39 near Plymouth for a possible body lying in the freeway, according to a new release. They searched the area and found a woman at the end of the entrance ramp from Plymouth Road to the freeway. Witnesses did not see any vehicles in the area that may have struck the victim, police said. Troopers are seeking information about the vehicle that struck the victim and fled the scene, police said.

Brighton will play Detroit Catholic Central in today’s 7 p.m. state championship game, also in Plymouth. Gavin Rozema scored Grandville’s lone goal in the third. Both teams claimed quarterfinal wins Saturday, with Midland High winning a Division 1 quarterfinal over DeWitt, 1-0, to improve to 18-9. Midland Dow earned a 3-1 win over East Grand Rapids to win a spot in the Division 3 semifinals.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI - A man outside of his disabled car was hit and killed by a vehicle driving on a freeway early Sunday north of Plymouth, state police said. Troopers responded after the crash that occurred at 5:25 a.m., Oct. 17 on southbound M-39, said the Michigan State Police Metro Detroit post. Investigators initially determined that the man left his disabled car and was standing outside on the freeway, police said. A vehicle then struck him, police said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle that hit the man caught fire and stopped shortly after making contact, police said.
