Whitmer Administration Expands Telemedicine, Urges President Trump To Permit ACA Special Enrollment Period During COVID-19

During this crisis, we must do everything we can to ensure access to quality, affordable health care, said Governor Whitmer. Thats why were calling on the president to allow for a special enrollment period, and why were taking action today in Michigan to expand opportunities for safe, quality care through telemedicine. And when we expand coverage through a special enrollment period, we can ensure access to quality, affordable care to more Michiganders. Special enrollment periods have also been used to respond to more personal situations such as house fires or domestic violence. The president should do whats best for Americans and allow for a special enrollment period while we combat the spread of COVID-19, said DIFS Director Anita Fox.

Whitmer: Michigan Medicaid Program Will Waive Copays, Cost-Sharing For Coronavirus Testing, Health Care

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced last week that the Michigan Medicaid Program will waive copays and cost-sharing for testing and health care treatment related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). A number of insurers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network of Michigan, Priority Health, CVS Health, McLaren, and Meridian also announced they will fully cover the cost of medically-necessary COVID-19 tests for members. So far we have no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Michigan, however we must take steps to ensure every Michigander has access to the care they need to combat the spread of this disease, said Whitmer. Thats why the State of Michigan is stepping up by waiving fees for testing and treatment associated with coronavirus. I also want to applaud the leadership of insurers like Blue Cross Blue Shield, Priority Health, CVS Health, McLaren, and Meridian for waiving copays and deductibles for coronavirus testing.
