Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic returns to Wayne State, features top high school football teams

After a one-year hiatus, the Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic is set to return to the campus of Wayne State University to kick off the 2021 high school football season. After the event was canceled last year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the PKC is set to welcome 12 teams that will play in six games across three days. According to a release from the Detroit Sports Commission, the schedule of games will be as follows:Thursday, Aug. 264 p.m.: Canton vs. Dearborn Fordson7 p.m. Clinton Township Chippewa Valley vs. Detroit Catholic CentralFriday, Aug. 274 p.m.: Birmingham Groves vs. Dexter7 p.m.: Warren De La Salle vs. Chicago St. PatrickSaturday, Aug. 281 p.m.: Eastpointe vs. River Rouge4 p.m.: Detroit Cass Tech vs. Southfield A&T“The Detroit Sports Commission is proud to once again kick off the high school football season in Michigan with an exciting lineup of games at a great setting in the heart of Midtown Detroit,” said Dave Beachnau, the senior vice president of the Detroit Sports Commission, in a release. “The 2021 event will feature a tremendous collection of schools and also highlight the colorful pageantry of bands and cheerleaders for fans to experience at this signature event.”Tickets will be available at a later date online at detroitsports.org, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting each school. One ticket will grant admission to all games on that particular day.
