Detroit teens work to clean up Old Redford through summer jobs program
Amid concerning headlines about youth crime in Detroit, about 30 teens are participating in Detroit Blight Busters’ Summer Youth Employment Program, working to clean up the Old Redford neighborhood. The initiative aims to instill pride, responsibility, and leadership by involving young people in improving their community and understanding the purpose behind their efforts. Participants say the work is meaningful, motivating, and contributes to neighborhood revitalization. The city is also expanding its Grow Detroit’s Young Talent program to provide summer jobs for 8,000 local youth.
