How Michigan SNAP recipients can file for food lost due to power outages
Michigan SNAP recipients who lost food due to power outages over Independence Day weekend can request replacement benefits if the outage lasted at least four hours and the food was purchased with SNAP. Losses must generally be reported within 10 days by submitting a Food Replacement Affidavit, either online through MI Bridges or at a Michigan Department of Health and Human Services office. The replacement amount cannot exceed the monthly SNAP benefit, but deadlines may be extended after major disasters if a federal waiver is granted. Residents should verify if their county has an extended deadline, such as Wayne County, where the deadline is July 23.
