4Warn Weather Alert Declared for part of Metro Detroit for Sunday; What you can expect

Showers & thunderstorms are expected for part of Metro Detroit, some storms could be strong to severe

The Storm Prediction Center says isolated tornadoes are possible with strong to severe thunderstorms in part of Metro Detroit on Sunday... (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – As new high-resolution model data has been coming into the 4Warn Weather Center on Sunday Morning, the Storm Prediction Center has increased the risk for strong to severe thunderstorms over portions of the region.

Due to these changes indicating the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms increasing, we have declared a 4Warn Weather Alert for Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening for part of Metro Detroit.

WHERE: Along and North of M-59: Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac, and St. Clair Counties

TIMING: Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible between 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM Sunday afternoon and evening.

HAZARDS: Damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall are the primary threats, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as this disturbance moves through our Center and Northern Communities.

A Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) remains in place for areas along and North of I-94, but the best chances for strong to severe thunderstorms today look to be in our Central and Northern Communities, especially with this upgrade in the risk for severe weather.

This will NOT be a widespread severe weather threat today, and not even a widespread chance for thunderstorms either. With more heat, more humidity, and this upper-level disturbance moving into the region, we have kept the chance for a few thunderstorms into the forecast, but it really looks like the further north you go, the chances for thunderstorms increase, and the severe threat increases as well.

We’re tracking these thunderstorms today in your neighborhood. Download our 4Warn Weather App, stay with ClickOnDetroit.com and Local 4+, we’ll keep you ahead of the thunderstorms as they develop this afternoon.
