Three Ann Arbor public high schools named among best in Michigan

Each took a top 10 spot

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Community High School, Huron High School and Pioneer High School are top-tier public high schools, according to Niche.

The financial website recently released its list of “Best Public High Schools in Michigan” for 2024 and put the Ann Arbor high schools in three of the top 10 spots.

Huron High School ranked fifth, with Community and Pioneer high schools nabbing the ninth and tenth spots.

Each Ann Arbor high school received an A+ as its overall Niche grade, but they do have their differences.

Pioneer High School, at 601 W. Stadium Blvd., is the largest of the three with a student population of 1,868. It has a student-teacher ratio of 18 to 1. According to Niche, state test scores show that 89% of students are proficient in reading and 79% are proficient in math.

Huron High School has around 1,621 students and a 15 to 1 ratio. Located at 2727 Fuller Rd, it has a 94 percent graduation rate and a 30 percent AP enrollment rate, Niche said.

The smallest of the three high schools, Community High School has just over 500 students. It has a 16 to 1 student-teacher ratio, with students scoring an average of 1300 on the SAT and 29 on the ACT according to scores submitted to Niche.

The Michigan list is part of Niche’s search for the best schools and school districts across the United States. It looked at more than 94,000 schools in 12,192 districts. Data came from the U.S. Department of Education and from ratings given by students, parents and school alumni to make its 2024 list.

  2. International Academy (Bloomfield Hills)
  3. Novi High School (Novi)
  4. Troy High School (Troy)
  5. Huron High School (Ann Arbor)
  6. Northville High School (Northville)
  7. Wylie E. Groves High School (Beverly Hills)
  8. Okemos High School (Okemos)
  9. Community High School (Ann Arbor)
  10. Pioneer High School (Ann Arbor)
