Sgt. Collin Rose's family: 'Pray for task force' to arrest their son's killer
Rose's family receives special tributes during ceremony
DETROIT – The family of fallen police Sgt. Collin Rose received special tributes Monday afternoon during a ceremony at Wayne State University police headquarters.
It was a celebration of Rose's contributions to his department as well as the Wayne State community.
Detroit police Chief James Craig presented Rose’s parents, Randy and Karen, along with his fiancee, Nikki Salgot, the 2016 Excellence Award from the Detroit Police Lieutenants and Sergeants Association. The plaque was designed and made exclusively for the family.
Karen Rose spoke for the family and said they are grateful for the community's support.
"Pray for the task force that they have the strength to find this individual that killed Collin and make the city again safe," Rose said.
Throughout the celebration it was clear that the search for Sgt. Rose's killer was on everyone’s mind. Rose, 29, was shot in the head on Nov. 22, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, while on patrol just off campus on Lincoln near Selden. He died of his injury.
"Somebody knows something, seen something, we need that somebody to come forward," Wayne State police Chief Anthony Holt said. "When one officer falls, we all feel it."
The reward to help solve this case is $102,500 and the homicide task force is working around the clock chasing leads. Craig spoke about the case at the ceremony and said he is optimistic the case will be solved.
"I will tell you that this suspect may hide but we will find you and we'll arrest you. Your time is short. That’s my commitment to the families," Craig said.

Holt also received a copy of the 2016 Excellence Award to be placed in the University. The law enforcement community wants to make sure that Rose is never forgotten.
Rose's family received a flag and plaque from the National Association of Police Organizations.
