MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Detroit man led a police chase early Friday morning after officials said it began over stolen plants in Eastpointe.
Police responded to English Gardens near 9 Mile and Kelly in Eastpointe at around 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 25 for a report of someone stealing plants at the store.
Officers pulled over a pickup truck hauling a trailer with a lawnmower attached. When police told the driver, a 37-year-old Detroit man, that he was being arrested for the alleged stolen plants, he sped off.
While the suspect was driving away, an officer was run over by the trailer in the process. The officer is expected to be okay.
Police chased after the driver to 8 Mile and Mound. During the chase, the trailer detached from the pickup truck after a tire blew out, leaving the lawnmower abandoned in the middle of the road.
The chase later continued on foot, where the man allegedly threw lawn chairs and other items at Warren police in the process while running through a neighborhood. He was eventually tased and arrested.
