3 men found dead in house fire on Helen Street in Detroit; 2 arrested

Deadly fire under investigation

DETROIT – Three men were found dead Thursday morning inside a home that burned on Helen Street in Detroit.

The men were found dead inside the home by firefighters. Investigators are working to figure out if the victims were killed by the fire or if they were killed before the fire, with the fire being set intentionally.

Police are treating this as a homicide and have taken two men into custody for questioning.

The home is on Helen Street not far from Van Dyke and 7 Mile Road.

Fire investigators have been working to identify a cause.

Detroit firefighters say all three men were found dead in the living room of the home. They had suffered severe burns and were burned beyond recognition.

The owner of the home has been there for about 6 or 7 years. Neighbors say his name was Ron and they loved having him in then neighborhood.

“He’d do anything for anybody, he’d go out of his way, you know, he was a good guy,” said Gilbert Rodriguez, a neighbor.

Rodriguez believes he saw someone running away from the home as the fire was starting. He has been working with police and arson investigators.
