3 killed in New Year’s Eve crash in Detroit’s Corktown

DETROIT – Three people were killed in a crash on New Year’s Eve in Detroit’s Corktown area.

Detroit police said the crash happened around 10:40 p.m. on Michigan Avenue near 16th Street. An 87-year-old man was driving a 2017 Cadillac, traveling west on Michigan Avenue when his vehicle collided into a Mercury Sable, occupied by two people, police said.

Both occupants in the Mercury were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
