Detroit police: Mother not at fault in collision that killed 4-year-old boy

Police believe driver of other vehicle was responsible for the crash

DETROIT – A 23-year-old woman was released from police custody Wednesday after a fatal two-vehicle collision that morning.

Initially, the woman was taken into custody and they believed alcohol was a factor in the crash. Wednesday afternoon, authorities said the woman was not at fault and they now believe the other driver was responsible for the collision.

Police said the woman is still being treated for her injuries.

According to authorities, a red Chevrolet Impala and a white Nissan Centra collided in the area of Seven Mile Road and Faust Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Police said the 4-year-old in the Nissan was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Seven Mile Road was closed down for several hours as police investigated.

Police said the driver of the Chevrolet -- a 37-year-old man -- was pronounced dead. Police believe he was at fault for the collision.

The woman who was driving the Nissan was taken to a hospital, where she is still listed in temporary serious condition.
