SOUTHGATE, Mich. – Raymond John Alkewich, 31, is accused of killing a pregnant Southgate mother in a hit-and-run incident Saturday. He was arraigned Tuesday and was charged with failure to stop at scene of an accident resulting in death. Her family knows the arraignment won’t bring her back, but they’re hoping it’s a step in the right direction for the grieving family. It’s believed that over the weekend, Alkewich ran a light and struck Strother, who was crossing the street, and then kept on driving. MAYFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Thomas Boyce, a 49-year-old man from Dearborn Heights, was killed Monday after he struck a tree with a snowmobile in Mayfield Township. DETROIT – Family and friends of Rodney and Marlene Rodriguez are remembering the two after they died in a two-car collision on Michigan Avenue. According to a GoFundMe page, Rodney and Marlene were married for 43 years. Rodney just picked up his wife from work at a city casino when the crash happened on New Year’s Eve night. Larry and Tahisha Smith had just left MGM Casino when they saw the crash. Police said Rodney and Marlene were in their Mercury Sable which was split in half in the collision.

DETROIT – Police are investigating a three-vehicle collision in Downtown Detroit that occurred Sunday. According to authorities, just after 5:30 p.m., a Jeep Wrangler, a Dodge Ram and a Buick collided in the intersection of Grand River and Cass avenues. Police said the driver of the Buick, a 60-year-old man, was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 13-year-old boy was also rushed to a hospital, but he is expected to survive. Harper Woods man arraigned in connection with fatal hit-and-run on I-94
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Martin Dwayne Smith, a 51-year-old man from Harper Woods, was arraigned Friday afternoon in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on I-94 Monday. Zachery Morisette, a 26-year-old Macomb County Department of Roads employee, was struck and killed while replacing a manhole cover on I-94 near Nine Mile Road in Macomb County. Smith was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resulting in serious impairment or death. Police said six Oak Park High School students were in the vehicle the driver was speeding and jumped the curb. The vigil was held Sunday at the David H Shepherd Park, located on Church Street in Oak Park. An Oak Park High School basketball player is still in critical condition. Driver ejected as vehicle drives off overpass onto Davison Freeway service drive
DETROIT – Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday on the eastbound ramp from the Davison Freeway to I-75. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle just after 5 p.m. and struck the right wall, causing the vehicle to go over the overpass and land on the Davison Freeway service drive to I-75. Police said the driver was ejected as the vehicle went off the overpass. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Detroit, was pronounced dead at the scene. The ramp from eastbound Davison Freeway to I-75 and the service drive were closed for several hours during the investigation but have since reopened.

DETROIT Kelvin Jerome Simpson II was charged Tuesday in connection to a collision that killed his 9-year-old son. According to authorities, the crash happened in the 14000 block of Minock Street at about 3 a.m. Sunday. Tuesday, Simpson was charged with second degree homicide, operating with a high blood alcohol concentration causing death, operating while intoxicated causing death, operating while license suspended causing death, operating with a high blood alcohol content causing serious injury and second degree child abuse. Court documents claim Simpson stood mute and a plea of not guilty was entered by the court. He is being held without bail and is expected to return to court Aug. 4.

According to authorities, the 48-year-old driver of the truck was killed. Police said the speeding truck hit the median and was launched into the air, crashing into the house 3 to 4 feet off the ground. Neighbors said they heard and saw the truck before the crash and added its not uncommon for people to speed down their street. They called 911 and attempted to get the driver out of the truck, but it was too heavily damaged from the collision.

ROSEVILLE, Mich. Police are investigating a fatal collision Saturday after a 67-year-old man was struck on Gratiot Avenue at about 4:30 a.m. According to authorities, police were dispatched to Gratiot Avenue, near Victor Street, just west of the I-94 on reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Officers found the man in the road, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver, a 22-year-old man, was taken into custody by St. Clair Shores Police. He is expected to be charged Monday with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
