Police investigate fatal crash near U.S. 31 in Muskegon
MUSKEGON, MI — Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred in Muskegon Township. About 1:45 a.m. on Friday, May 7, troopers from the Michigan State Police Grand Rapids Post responded to the crash site on Skyline Drive near U.S. 31. Earlier, Muskegon police responded to a report of a vehicle assist on Memorial Causeway near Skyline Drive. When the Muskegon officer arrived on scene, the vehicle fled east on Skyline Drive in the westbound lanes. CHESANING TWP, MI — Saginaw County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a one-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred in Chesaning Township. About 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, deputies responded to the crash scene in the area of Sharon and Baldwin roads. The driver, a 24-year-old Chesaning man, lost control of the car, which left the roadway and rolled over several times. US sends investigators to probe another Michigan Tesla crash
LANSING, Mich. – For the second time this week, the U.S. government’s road safety agency is sending a team to investigate a Tesla crash in Michigan. Previously, it had taken a hands-off approach to the new technologies, favoring voluntary safety compliance so it wouldn't interfere with the promising safety systems. Neither the trooper nor the 22-year-old Tesla driver were injured in the 1:10 a.m. crash, police said. Earlier this week NHTSA sent a special crash investigation team to Detroit for a crash that involved a Tesla that drove beneath a semitrailer. NHTSA has previously investigated more than a dozen Tesla crashes, but hasn’t made public any action.

The passenger, a 21-year-old woman, is in the hospital in critical condition and the driver of the Tesla was also injured. The crash circumstances are similar to two others in Florida in which Teslas drove beneath tractor-trailers, causing two deaths. In both crashes, in 2016 and 2019, the cars were being driven while using Tesla’s Autopilot partially automated driving software.
Monroe County deputy, member of fire department crash while responding to same emergency
MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Monroe County deputy and a member of the Monroe Township Fire Department were both hospitalized Friday morning after their vehicles collided while responding to the same emergency. Authorities say that at about 7:48 a.m. Friday, the Monroe County sheriff deputy was traveling westbound on Dunbar Road while responding to an emergency call. Officials say the truck was driven by a member of the Monroe Township Fire Department, who was actually responding to the same emergency as the deputy. The deputy was conscious and alert following the crash, according to authorities. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has any information is asked to contact police at 734-242-3500.

DETROIT – A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition Thursday after a vehicle she was riding in became wedged beneath the trailer of a semi truck in Detroit. A passenger in the Tesla -- an unidentified 21-year-old woman -- suffered from a head injury and was taken to the hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. DETROIT – A man involved in an alleged intentional car crash in Detroit early Saturday morning has died. When troopers arrived at the scene of the crash, they found a wounded man laying on the ground and an uninjured female passenger, officials said. Officials believe the car crash was intentional and that the individuals involved knew each other. Police say the alleged intentional car crash resulted in gunfire. Police identified the uninjured woman as a “female passenger,” but did not say which vehicle she belonged to.
Man, 33, dies in Whiteford Township car crash after driving backwards on US-23
WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 33-year-old Ypsilanti man died due to a vehicle crash on US-23 Thursday evening. According to authorities, at about 6:50 p.m. Thursday, the Ypsilanti man was driving a black 2008 Hyundai Tiburon northbound on US-23 in Whiteford Township when he pulled over onto the right shoulder for unknown reasons. Shortly after, the man reportedly began traveling in reverse on the shoulder and as he reentered the freeway, driving backwards in the far right lane. As the Ypsilanti man reentered the freeway, his Hyundai was struck by a 52-year-old Adrian man driving a Ford Expedition who was unable to stop while traveling northbound on US-23. The 33-year-old man driving the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Single-car crash kills 4-year-old girl in Brighton, injures 3 others
BRIGHTON, Mich. – Police are investigating a single-car crash that killed a 4-year-old girl in Livingston County on Friday. UPDATE: North Carolina man charged in crash that killed 4-year-old daughter in Livingston CountyAccording to authorities, the man’s 33-year-old wife, 8-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police say the 4-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and died at the scene. The driver, his wife and 8-year-old son were removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel and taken to the hospital for their injuries. Officials with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office believe that excessive speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
29-year-old woman struck in Pontiac hit-and-run dies
PONTIAC, Mich. – A 29-year-old woman has died nearly 48 hours after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Pontiac Monday night. On Dec. 7, Vannessa Deanes was tragically struck by a Chevy Impala while crossing North Perry Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Deanes was listed in critical condition Monday night, and ultimately passed away due to her injuries. Russini had worked with Deanes for years at the Heritage Baptist Church, where she once helped out with children during Sunday school. Police say it was a 31-year-old man behind the wheel who kept driving after hitting the 29-year-old woman.
Single-car crash kills 1 teenage boy, seriously injures 3 others in Manistee County
MANISTEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating a single-car crash that killed one teenage passenger and seriously injured three others Friday night. Michigan State Police say at about 9:50 p.m. four teenage males from Manistee County were driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on River Road in Manistee Township when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the side of the road. Police say when they arrived at the scene, one passenger was still stuck inside the vehicle and had to be removed. All four occupants sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital. Police believe that alcohol and speed may have contributed to the crash.
